So another trip to Whole Paycheck (Whole Foods) this week and I discover that the main shopping item that I needed (chives!) they are out of. WTF. Well, this won’t do as I need chives to make homemade ranch dressing. Thankfully, I remember reading somewhere that dried green onion stems will work in a pinch. No pun intended. Into my shopping cart they go and I’m off to home to dehydrate the suckers.

These green onion stems were put onto leather trays in my dehydrator, the tempature was set to 100 degrees, and six hours later they were nice and dry.

Just like the garlic I posted about recently, these too were very potent and were the best dried green onions I have ever had.

The perfect substitute!
