One of the hardest aspects of my work is (surprisingly) coming up with names for my products. They already have item numbers, but who wants to see product DIY20001 on the title? Boring!

A more recent fibers that I dyed was one that reminds me of a tropical beach. It was fun to work with because it is a combination of merino wool and tussah sulk.

There is the color of the ocean, the brown from wood that has washed up on the beach, tan to capture the sand, and silver to define the glint of water in the sunset.

All of my items can be found on Etsy, btw. Here is a link to this particular product. Enjoy!

I have to admit that I often have a difficult time coming up with names for my rovings after they are dyed. Sometimes what originally inspired me doesn’t fit the color scheme anymore. Sometimes I just wing it. However, I hope that when I do finally assign a name to each fiber, that the name fits and inspires people to associate it to the color and texture of the roving in question.

Oh and I almost forgot to include the Orchid Inspired Fiber which sold promptly after I listed it on Etsy. It is very pretty!

Just so there isn’t any confusion, I actually do have other hobbies aside from cooking and canning as my website title would suggest. Currently, when I’m not tearing up the kitchen and driving my husband nuts, I am spinning wool. And not just any wool, merino top to be precise. Merino is the type of wool and top is how the wool has been combed. Yes, this does make a big difference in the world of spinning. Here is the pink, cream, and brown fluffy mass after I have drafted the top. I hand-dyed this myself. The color will look slightly different because the first was shot with natural light and the second wasn’t.

After spinning it the result looks like this on the wheel:

I’ll be sure to post pictures of the yarn once I am done spinning and plying it.
